EDUCATE, EMPOWER, ENLIGHTEN
One in every four women will experience domestic or sexual assault in her lifetime.
Every 15 seconds, a woman is assaulted in the U.S.
In the Project AWARE study, 44.8% of Asian women reported that they did “nothing” after being abused; 32.1% said they “kept quiet.” The report’s authors noted that “Doing nothing can serve as a strategy of resistance in an attempt to avoid or lessen abuse.”
The majority (73%) of family victims are female. Females were 84% of spousal abuse victims and 86% of abuse victims at the hands of a boyfriend.
Children who grow up in violent homes come to believe that violence is normal. They come to believe that it is an acceptable way to control someone else. The majority of adult violent prisoners were raised in violent homes.
Most domestic violence incidents are never reported.
